Trauma and Structional Disassociation

Words from a trauma survivor: “Without realizing it, I fought to keep my two worlds separated. Without ever knowing why, I made sure, whenever possible, that nothing passed between the compartmentalization I had created between the day child and the night child.” —Marilyn Van Derbur (2004, p. 26).

Trauma is not the event, but what is left, in the mind, body system after the traumatic event took place. It’s the flashbacks, the memories, the unconscious triggers or destructive/ unhealthy behaviour. Building a bridge between thew worlds inside us leads to deep emotional healing and freedom.
